When the Sea Begins to Speak โ€“ A Personal Reflection

Home is not a place, but a rhythm between sea and shore โ€“ between departure and return. At sea, I learn humility, attentiveness, and responsibility, carried by wind, water, and silence. The white-throated dipper becomes a quiet symbol of belonging: a life lived between worlds, between stillness and movement. Sailing, for me, is both connection and commitment โ€“ to nature, to people, and to a more sustainable future.

If Every Action Matters โ€“ What Would Happen If We Were Brave?

If every action matters, what would happen if we were brave? From 17โ€“19 January 2026, Fair Winds Collective will be at boot Dรผsseldorf, sharing emission-free sailing, education, and climate action. Through talks and our Flags of Hope workshop, Peggy from the Fair Winds Collective invites visitors to rethink how we move, learn, and care for the ocean.

A Strong Showing in Bremen

At the MCN Cup in Bremen, Fair Winds Collective reached the top three among innovative maritime projects. Our mission-zero, wind-powered approach resonated strongly with industry leaders and sparked valuable conversations. This recognition confirms that practical, emission-free solutions are gaining momentum, and that collaboration - not greenwashing - is what truly moves the maritime sector forward.

Fair Winds, Shared Vision: Bringing PlanktoScopes to Sea

Fair Winds Collective, is bringing emission-free ocean science to sea through a collaboration with SOOP (Shaping an Ocean of Possibilities), Fair Transportโ€™s Tres Hombres, and Tilvera Expeditions. By installing PlanktoScope instruments on wind-powered sailing vessels, the initiative enables high-quality plankton monitoring without adding emissions. This growing instrument pool supports global ocean observation, open data, and sustainable research - powered by wind and collaboration.

Freedom, Sustainability, and Life at Sea

January 2020, Peggy Engelmann stepped aboard the schooner Avontuur, leaving her old life behind. During a 100-day Covid-delayed crossing, she discovered freedom, presence, and teamwork at sea. Sailing deepened her commitment to sustainability and taught her to live in harmony with the ship, the elements, and the world around her.
