Home is not a place, but a rhythm between sea and shore โ between departure and return. At sea, I learn humility, attentiveness, and responsibility, carried by wind, water, and silence. The white-throated dipper becomes a quiet symbol of belonging: a life lived between worlds, between stillness and movement. Sailing, for me, is both connection and commitment โ to nature, to people, and to a more sustainable future.
Freedom, Sustainability, and Life at Sea
January 2020, Peggy Engelmann stepped aboard the schooner Avontuur, leaving her old life behind. During a 100-day Covid-delayed crossing, she discovered freedom, presence, and teamwork at sea. Sailing deepened her commitment to sustainability and taught her to live in harmony with the ship, the elements, and the world around her.
